August 2011: Hawstead Lodge take reserve female champion at Edenbridge and Oxted

In our last show of the summer season, we took the reserve female championship at Edenbridge and Oxted show on the bank holiday weekend with our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 under judge Donald Biggar.

In the yearling heifer class we stood first with Hawstead lodge Jace Erica K287, as well as third with Hawstead Lodge Eve K286, while in the yearling bul class we stood second and fourth with Hawstead Lodge Karla Pea K309 and Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K304, respectively. Our senior bull Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 stood third.

On the second day of judging we stood third in the interbreed progeny group with Hawstead Lodge Karla Pea, Bunty Mate and Eve.

August 2011: Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 takes breed championship and interbreed native championship at Wayland Show

Leading the way for us at Wayland Show was our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 who took the breed championship and then went on to win the native interbreed championship. She is by our stock sire nightingale Panmure and is out of our successful show cow Pamela E042.

Also at the show, our bull Hawstead Lodge Peter was interbreed senior male champion, while we had first in the yearling bull class with Hawstead Lodge Buntymate K304 and second with Hawstead Lodge Karlape K309, while in the yearling heifer class we stood first and third with Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica K287 and Hawstead Lodge Eve K286, respectively. Our next outing will now be Edenbridge and Oxted Show at the end of the month.

July 2011 - Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K305 is reserve junior interbreed champion at Norfolk Show

Norfolk Show was yet another good outing for the Hawstead Lodge team as we took the reserve breed championship having stood first and reserve female champion with our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250. She was also part of the winning group of three.

In the male classes we won the junior bull class and then went on to be male champion with Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K305 who also took the native junior interbreed title and reserve overall junior interbreed title. In the senior bull class we also took top honours with Hawstead Lodge Peter J221.

Our other two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride J235 stood fourth and also part of the winning group, while our two yearling heifers Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica K278 and Jace Erica K287, stood second and fifth, respectively.

June 2011- Hawstead Lodge Peter is breed champion at East of England Show

Winning his class and taking the overall breed championship at last week's East of England Show was our two year old bull Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 by Nightingale Panmure, while Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250, again by Panmure, won her two year old heifer class before going on to take the female and reserve breed championship. The two of them also teamed up to win the Best Angus Pairs.

We also stood second in the two year old class with Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride J235 and in the yearling bull class Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K304 won his class and stood reserve male champion. Our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica K278 also won her class, while Jace Erica K287 stood second in her class and was placed second in the interbreed native class on the Sunday of the show.

In the interbreed junior championship Bunty Mate was tapped out as interbreed native male junior champion, while Jace Erica was placed interbreed native junior heifer. In the interbreed group of three, Hawstead Lodge Peter, Pamela and Bonny Bride took the reserve spot.

June 2011- Hawstead Lodge are reserve interbreed group champions at Suffolk Show

It was another successful outing for the Hawstead Lodge team at Suffolk Show, where our senior bull Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 won his class and then went on to take the reserve male championship. In the rest of the class judging we took a second in the yearling bull class with Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K304, while in the female classes, Hawstead Lodge bonny Bride J235 also stood second and in the same class Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 stood fifth. In the yearling heifer classes, we took a second and third with the two Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica heifers.

On the second day of judging, Hawstead Lodge Peter, Pamela and Bonny Bride teamed up to win the native group of three and then reserve overall interbreed group, while they stood second in the sire bred group interbreed.

May 2011 - Hawstead Lodge Peter is native interbreed champion at South Suffolk Show

Leading the way for us on our first show outing this year was Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 who won his class before being tapped out as male champion and then overall breed champion before going one better to win the native interbreed championship.

In the two year old heifer class we stood first with Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride J235, another daughter of Panmure. She then went on to take the overall female championship. In the yearling bull class, Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K304, yet another Panmure son won his class and then stood reserve male champion behind Peter. We also stood second in the yearling heifer class with Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica K278 and third with Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica K287.

May 2011 - Hawstead Lodge Peter wins class at Hadleigh Show

Winning the senior bull class at Hadleigh Show was Hawstead Lodge Peter J221. In the other classes, Hawstead lodge Bonny Bride J235 stood second, while we had a fifth place with Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250, a second with the yearling bull Hawstead Lodge Bunty Mate K304, and a third and fifth in the yearling heifer class with the two Hawstead Lodge Jace Erica heifers.

September 2010 - Hawstead Lodge dominate Edenbridge and Oxted Show classes

As we near the end of the 2010 summer show season, we’re pleased to announce another cracking set of show results, this time from Edenbridge and Oxted Show. We led the breed classes under judge Colin Hutchings with our senior bull Nightingale Panmure. He won the senior bull class before taking the male and overall championship.

Our yearling bull Hawstead Lodge Peter, by Panmure, won the yearling bull class, with a newcomer to the team, Hawstead Lodge Eulimer, standing fifth. In the yearling heifer class Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride continued her strong season to win the class, while Hawstead Lodge Pamela, daughter of last year’s show cow, stood second to Bonny Bride.

In the two year old heifer class, Hawstead Lodge Buttercup won the class and also went on to take the overall female championship. On the second day of judging we were then tapped out as reserve female interbreed champion under judge and auctioneer Paul Gentry of Newark Livestock Market.

Our next and last show of the summer season will be Newbury, we look forward to seeing you there.

September 2010 - Nightingale Panmure Native Interbreed champion at Newbury Show

Leading the way for us as at our last show of the summer season was our senior stock bull Nightingale Panmure E281, by Nightingale Garfield. He won his senior bull class, but had to be judged by umpire judge Reg Huthcings as his breeder Angela Robertson of the nightingale herd was judging. He then went on to be placed breed champion and then took the native interbreed the next day under judge Tom Rennie.

Also in the breed classes, we stood first in the junior bull class with Hawstead Lodge Peter J221, by Panmure, we took a second in the two year old heifer class with Hawstead Lodge Buttercup H194, a third in the yearling heifer class with Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 and a fifth place in the same class with Hawstead Lodge Bonnybride J235.

So that’s the summer shows over and done with for us this year. We will now be turning our attention to the Winter National Show in Carlisle and also the winter selling season, so keep checking back on the site to see what’s for sale soon.

July 2010 - Nightingale Panmure E281 takes reserve championship at Norfolk

Cattle by our senior stock bull Nightingale Panmure E281 are doing incredibly well on the show circuit this year, so it was great to feature in a championship with the big man himself at the royal Norfolk Show. Having won his class, judge Carolyn Fletcher then tapped him out as male champion and also reserve breed champion.

Our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride J235 and our yearling bull Hawstead Lodge Peter J221, both by Panmure, won their respective classes, while our other yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250, daughter of last year’s show cow, stood second to Bonny Bride. In the yearling bull class we also took a fourth with Hawstead lodge Peregrine J234, while our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Buttercup H194 stood second in her class.

JUNE 2010  - Bonny Bride is reserve champion at East of England Show

It was the turn of our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge bonny Bride J235 to feature in the championship line up at the East of England Show under judge Wanda Hobbs. Having won the yearling heifer class, she went on to take the overall female championship and then stand reserve overall champion. Bonny Bride is by our senior herd sire Nightingale Panmure E281, who stood first at the show in the senior bull class.

Our two yearling bulls, Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 and Hawstead Lodge Peregrine J234, stood second and third, respectively. Both bulls are by Panmure. Our other yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250, daughter of last year’s successful show cow and by Panmure, stood second in the yearling heifer class to Bonny Bride. We also stood first in the pairs class.

In the interbreed championships, Bonny Bride took the junior heifer native championship under judge Jeff Thomas of Penzance.

JUNE 2010  - Hawstead Lodge Peter stands junior native interbreed champion at Lincoln Show

Continuing his strong winning form from last month’s Suffolk Show, our yearling bull Hawstead Lodge Peter J221, a son of senior herd sire nightingale Panmure E281 out of Hawstead Lodge Petula F075, won his class at the Lincoln Show and then went on to take the breed championship and later stand interbreed native junior champion. Our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Buttercup H194, by Nightingale Panmure E281, won her class and then took the reserve female championship, while our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 stood second and Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride J235 stood third.

JUNE 2010  - Hawstead Lodge Peter H157 sold to Essex

We are pleased to announce the sale of our February 2008-born bull Hawstead Lodge Peter H157 to Robert Brown, Chelmsford, Essex, for his Butterstone herd. Peter is by Nightingale Panmure E281 and is out of the Blealck Blackberet A241 daughter Hawstead Lodge Petal F071, who is out of one of our foundation females Hayrish Petal C115. We would like to wish Robert every success with his new herd sire.

JUNE 2010  - Nightingale Panmure is reserve breed champion at South of England Show

Our next outing of the show season took us down to Ardingly in Sussex for this year’s South of England Show. Judge for this year was past Society president William McLaren of the Netherton herd and numbers in the Angus classes were reasonably strong.

We took a first in the senior bull class with our senior stock bull Nightingale Panmure E281 who then went on to be male champion and reserve overall breed champion.

Our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Bonny Bride J235 won her class and then went on to be placed junior champion, while Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250 took a fourth in that class but stood first in the native heifer sweepstake.  

Our yearling bull Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 stood first in his class before standing reserve junior champion behind Bonny Bride. In the same yearling bull class we took a fourth prize with Hawstead Lodge Peregrine J234, while our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Buttercup H194 stood fifth.

JUNE 2010 - Hawstead Lodge leading the way at Suffolk County Show

The Hawstead Lodge show team were on cracking form at this year’s Suffolk County Show where we took the overall breed championship, reserve championship and reserve male and female championships. We also took the reserve native championship and stood reserve interbreed champion group of three.

Our champion came through from the junior bull class in the form of Hawstead Lodge Peter J221, a son of our senior stock bull Nightingale Panmure E281 out of Hawstead Lodge Petula F075. The reserve overall and female was our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250, another daughter of Panmure, but this time out of our successful show cow from last year Hawstead Lodge Pamela E042.  

The reserve male championship went to our first prized senior bull and herd stock sire Nightingale Panmure E281, while the reserve female championship went to our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Buttercup H194, who is again by Panmure out of Hawstead Lodge Buttercup D023.

Our next show will be the South of England at Peterborough in two weeks time.

May 2010 - Hawstead Lodge take top spot at South Suffolk Show

We took a strong team out to South Suffolk Show which saw us take the female and breed championship with our two year old heifer Hawstead Lodge Buttercup H194.  

Our yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Pamela J250, who is out of last year’s successful show cow, won her class and then went on to be placed reserve female champion and reserve overall champion.  Our other yearling heifer Hawstead Lodge Bonny bride J235 stood second to Pamela.

In the male classes we won the yearling bull class with Hawstead Lodge Peter J221 who then went on to be male champion, while Hawstead Lodge Eric H163 won his senior bull class and then went on to take the reserve male championship.

We also stood second in the yearling bull class with Hawstead Lodge Peregrine J234.

MAY 2010 - Hawstead Lodge sell well at Carlisle Angus sale

The Society sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw two bulls entered from the Hawstead Lodge herd, both did well in their classes and both sold for good money to commercial breeders.

The first to go was the July 2008-born Hawstead Lodge Pennman H189 who stood first in his class. Pennman is by our senior herd sire Nightingale Panmure E281 and out of Hawstead Lodge Penny D027, a daughter of Wedderlie Karamal. He has a TSI of +25 and a SRI of +31, ranking him in the top 10% of the breed. He sold for 2900gns to GW Green and Son, Wooler, Northumberland.

The second bull to sell was Hawstead Lodge Preston H197. Again by Panmure, this August 2008-born bull is out of the Skaill dividend Y862 daughter Hawstead Lodge Priscilla D025. He sold at 2700gns to D Drinkall Ltd, Chorley, Lancashire.

April 2010 - Hawstead Lodge to host YDP workshop

Hawstead Lodge are delighted to be hosting the East Anglia regional workshop for the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society’s Youth development Programme on the 5th June. The YDP is a fantastic credit to the Society and has seen some great youngsters come through the programme who have gone on to do great things with this breed. Trainer for the day will be our stockman Kevin Byford who will teach the participants all the skills they need to know for preparing stock for the show and sale ring. January  2010 - Balmachie Jath Eric joins Hawstead Lodge sire line up

Hawstead Lodge are delighted to announce the arrival of our senior herd sire Balmachie Jath Eric G047. Purchased privately from Messrs JF Lascelles, Carnousite, Angus, for £8000, this son of Rawburn Transformer is out of Idvies Juana Erica B091 who is a daughter of Jeremy Eric of Bridgefoot.

With such a powerful pedigree behind him and a set of figures to match (+34 Terminal Index and +50 Self Replacing Index) Jath Eric will make an excellent addition to the sire line up at Hawstead Lodge and we look forward to using him on Blackberet and Panmure daughters.

December 2009 - Another Blackberet son sells privately off farm

Ending the year with yet another sale off the farm, we’re pleased to announce Hawstead Lodge Ezmar H178 has found a new home with commercial producer Mark Ward, Wiltshire. Again by our senior herd sire Blelack Blackberet A241, Ezmar is out of Hawstead Lodge Esmerelda D024 who has Wedderlie breeding on both sides.

November 2009 - Hawstead Lodge Victor is champion at East of England Winter Stock Festival

We took a team of bulls Hawstead Lodge Henry, King Paul and Victor to the East of England Winter Stock Festival held at The Peterborough Showground.

Hawstead Lodge Victor H162 stood overall Aberdeen Angus champion, this February 2008 born bull is out of Vanessa of Winwick, all three bulls later sold well.

September 2009 - Hawstead Lodge celebrate great success at National Aberdeen-Angus Show

In a fantastic end to the summer show season, we were delighted with the results achieved by the Hawstead Lodge show team, at this year’s national Aberdeen- Angus show held in conjuction with the Royal county of Berkshire show at Newbury.  Our team consisted of a senior cow and calf,two yearling bulls, and one yearling heifer.

The highlight of this event for us was taking the reserve female and reserve male championships.  Hawstead Lodge Pamela E042 won an incredibly competitive cow class, beating some fantastic quality females, to then stand reserve female champion to the winner of the two year old heifer class.

Having stood second to the male and overall champion,  Hawstead Lodge Eric H163, who is the son of Nightingale Panmure,  also took the reserve championship.

The show was resounding success for both us and the Society and congratulations must go to all concerned.

July 2009 - Hawstead Lodge females start foundation herd in Suffolk

We would like to wish Mrs Elizabeth Reid, Hadleigh, Suffolk, the very best of luck with her new foundation females bought this month from our herd. She has purchased three in calf heifers from us, two of which are daughters of our herd sire Nightingale Panmure out of Wedderlie and Hayrish-bred dams and the other is by one of our homebred bulls out of a Hayrish-bred cow.

June 2009 - Hawstead Lodge Panmure G140 sells to pedigree and commercial herd

Sales of bulls have gone well, with Hawstead Lodge Panmure G140, son of our stock bull Nightingale Panmure E281 out of Hawstead Lodge Patience E061 finding a home with pedigree and commercial producer Phillip Murton, in Norfolk.  Hawstead Lodge Edward G138, a son of Nightingale Panmure out of Hawstead Lodge Elf E053 who is a daughter of Wedderlie Elf, also found a home with commercial producer, David Cutler of Sudbury, Suffolk. June 2009 - Hawstead Lodge on winning form at East of England

At this month’s East of England show our homebred cow Hawstead Lodge Pamela E024, this January 2005 born daughter of Blelack Blackberet A241 is out of Hayrish Petula A033, stood Champion in the Interbreed cow and calf class and also reserve senior native, describing his champion after the judging Mike Spooner said " she was a tremendous female, with good size, frame and condition who was rearing a calf that anyone would be proud of"

We then celebrated further by taking the top spot in the junior native interbreed championship under Simmental and Devon breeder David Barker of Taunton, with the April 2008 born bull Hawstead Lodge Jewlonica Eric, a Nightingale Panmure E281 son out of Hayrish Jewlonica Erica  B083.

May 2009 - Norfolk breed champion sells privately to Suffolk commercial producer

Having stood breed champion at the 2008 Royal Norfolk Show, interbreed junior champion at the Suffolk Show and reserve breed champion at Rutland, Hawstead Lodge Ebon G104 has sold to commercial producer NC Parrott, Brandon, Suffolk. Ebon is by Blelack Blackberet A241 and out of one of the herd’s foundation cows Curzon Ebonnie A029.

April 2009 - Hawstead Lodge Eurevine  sells to commercial breeder

One of the members of the 2008 show team has been sold to commercial producer Robert Mitchell of Norwich, Norfolk. Hawstead Lodge Eurevine E044, by Blelack Blackberet A241 out of Hurdcott Erevine A024, stood breed, native and overall interbreed champion at the 2008 Suffolk show, as well as male and reserve breed champion at the East of England Show and breed champion at Rutland in the same year.

Also during this month Norfolk-based Toby Bulgin bought Hawstead Lodge Eric H145, a son of Nightingale Panmure E281 out of Elldon Eulima A390.

February 2009 - Blackberet son sold to Norwich commercial producer

Kicking off the selling period for bulls privately off the farm, Hawstead Lodge Victor G116 has found a new home with DRM Kittle, Norwich, for his commercial suckler herd. By the herd’s senior sire Blelack Blackberet A241, Victor is out of Vanessa of Winwick, one of the herd’s earlier cows.
